Daniel Passarella Leaves River Plate

After failing to deliver the silverware he promised by the end of the year, Daniel Passarella left his position as manager of River Plate yesterday, with Jorge Gordillo taking temporary charge of the team for the remaining three Apertura games.

River now begin their search for a replacement, with a number of managers linked with the position, including Carlos Bianchi, Diego Simeone, Americo Gallego and Enzo Francescoli.

Bianchi is thought to be River's first choice, but seems unwilling to take the job, due to his strong ties with their fierce rivals Boca Juniors.

Beyond Bianchi, it seems to be a pretty open race, although Diego Simeone is considered by some to be the favourite if Bianchi does turn down River's offer.
