River Plate held Defensor Sporting of Uruguay to a 0-0 draw in the return leg of their Copa Sudamericana Quarter Final tie, progressing to the semi-final by virtue of the away goals rule, after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.The victory keeps Daniel Passarella's job as River coach safe for now, as he has previously promised to step down as coach unless they win either the Argentine Apertura or the Copa Sudamericana this year.
River will now play Millionairos of Colombia in the semi-finals.
