Tocalli Declares His Interest in Velez Job

Only days after resigning from his position as manager of the Argentina Under-20 side, Hugo Tocalli has put himself forward for the soon to be vacant position at Velez Sarsfield.

As we previously reported, Velez are looking for a replacement for Ricardo Lavolpe, who will leave the club as soon as they can find a successor.

Tocalli seems open to taking over, after being quoted as saying:

"Without doubt Velez is an important club, but I must also evaluate the other possibilities. Vélez is a very attractive club to go to direct".

The directors of Velez are said to have been pleased that Tocalli has thrown his hat into the ring and are thought to be keen to meet with him next week to discuss the possibility of him taking charge.

1986 World Cup Winner Batista to Replace Tocalli as Argentina U-20 Boss

The Argentine Football Association have moved quickly to appoint a successor to Hugo Tocalli, replacing him with 1986 World Cup winner Sergio Batista.

Tocalli, who led Argentina to this year's U-20 World Cup title, resigned earlier this week after a dispute with the AFA over how to develop future stars. He had previously served as assistant to Jose Pekerman, both at under-20 and senior level, before taking on the under-20 job himself.

AFA chief Julio Grondona confirmed yesterday that Batista would be the new man in charge, taking over at the end of December. He will see out his position as manager of second division side Godoy Cruz until then.
