The Ansa news agency is reporting that Fluminense defender Thiago Silva is close to agreeing a January move to Italian side Inter Milan.
The highly-rated defender, 24, was linked with a move to AC Milan this summer but it is Inter that look set to seal the deal, with their sporting director Marco Branca scheduled to meet with Silva's agent Paulo Tonietto on Friday to thrash out the final details of the transfer.
Silva played a vital role in Fluminense's run to the final of the 2008 Copa Libertadores, but with the club languishing in the bottom half of the Brazilian Championship and with star midfielder Thiago Neves having moved on to Europe, the time seems right for Silva to make the same step.
Should Inter manage to complete the transfer in the coming days then Silva is likely to play a fairly prominent role in the second half of their campaign as cover for an ageing central defence.
