Real Madrid's new Brazilian forward Alípio Duarte Brandão has revealed that his idol is former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Ronaldo.
Madrid moved quickly to secure the signature of Alipio, 16, from Portuguese club Rio Ave, with Chelsea and a number of other big European clubs said to have been eyeing the Brasilia-born forward.
Alipio will arrive in Spain with his agent Helder Daniel to finalise the details of his contract next Monday and will start to train with Madrid's Castilla youth side by the end of next week.
With a move to Madrid secured at such an early age, Alipio now has his sights set on replicating the achievements of Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima, who scored over eighty goals in his five year spell at the Bernabeu.
"I know that Ronaldo played for Real Madrid and it would be amazing if I could reach his level. He is my idol," he told Globo Esporte.
Journalists have dubbed Alipio the 'new Ronaldo' in reference to the current Manchester United winger, and the youngster would certainly appear to share some characteristics with the Portuguese international if his self-assessment is anything to go by.
"My main strengths are technical ability, pace and the capacity to make and score goals," he affirmed.
Madrid have paid €550,000 to Rio Ave to secure Alipio's services and are likely to consider that fee a bargain if he does manage to live up to his potential over the coming years.
