Arsenal and River Plate Draw, America win in Copa Sudamericana

Both Copa Sudamericana semi-final, first leg ties were played last night with America of Mexico victorious over Millionairos Bogota and Arsenal de Sarandi and River Plate playing out a goalless draw.

Millionairos did well to fight back from two goals down against America in Bogota, but couldn't prevent the Mexican side taking the decisive lead in the last five minutes of the game to come away with a 3-2 victory.

German Villa gave America the lead after 24 minutes, with Salvador Cabanas adding a second, twelve minutes later, after a defensive mistake from Millionairos put him through on goal. The home side rallied after the break, with goals from Gerardo Bedoya and Jonathan Estrada bringing the tie level with twenty minutes left to play. They couldn't find the vital third goal and were punished when Cabanas scored his second of the evening to give America the victory and the all important advantage going into the second leg.

In the other semi-final, Arsenal de Sarandi and River Plate played out a relatively uneventful 0-0 draw to leave the tie wide open for the return leg at El Monumental.
