South America backing joint Argentina/Uruguay bid for World Cup 2030

It may seem a long time away, but discussions have already begun for the country that Conmebol will put forward as potential hosts for the 2030 World Cup.

Uruguayan soccer assocation president Jose Luis Corbo has told El Pais daily that Conmebol members met last Friday to discuss hosts for the tournament, with Corbo putting forward his proposal of a Argentina/Uruguay co-hosted finals. He is quoted as saying:

"Fortunately, we obtained everybody's support, of all the national soccer presidents affiliated to the South American Confederation."

The 2030 tournament will mark the 100th anniversary of the original World Cup, which was hosted, and won, by Uruguay in 1930.
