River Plate defeat Reading

River Plate defeated Reading 1-0 in their opening Peace Cup game, thanks to a brilliantly struck free kick from Matias Abelairas in the 28th minute.

River looked impressive throughout, with captain Fernando Bellushi constantly finding space between the Reading midfield and back four. Their new forward line of Garcia Ruben and Mauro Rosales provided good movement up front, and Leonardo Ponzio struck the crossbar in an assured performance.

Daniel Pasarella seemed to have the team playing exactly as he wanted, which can only bode well for them after a disappointing Clausura campaign. Their next Peace Cup game is against Shimizu S-Pulse tomorrow night.

Bolton defeated Chivas 2-0 in the other weekend game involving a Latin American side, goals from Zoltan Harsanyi and Kevin Nolan enough for give the English side the victory. Chivas next face Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chumna on Tuesday.
