Brazil and Uruguay out of U-20 World Cup

Both Brazil and Uruguay were knocked out at the second round stage of the U-20 World Cup last night.

Brazil lost 4-2 to Spain, despite holding a two goal lead thanks to goals from Leandro Lima and Alexandre Pato in the first half. Spain pulled the game back to 2-2 by full time, adding another two goals in extra time to consign the Brazilians to an early exit from the tournament.

Uruguay suffered a similar fate, holding the lead through a Luis Suarez strike in the 73rd minute, until a Mathias Cardaccio own goal three minutes from time took their game against the USA into extra time. A Michael Bradley strike early in the second half of extra time was enough to give the Americans a 2-1 victory and leave Uruguay waiting for the next plane home.

The other three Latin American teams still involved will be hoping for better fortune in tonight's games, with Argentina, Mexico and Chile all hoping to progress to the quarter finals.
